Cruises from Lady Franklin Island
Lady Franklin Island is an uninhabited island lying 45 km east of the southern coast of Baffin Island, in the Canadian territory of Nunavut. It is situated 400 km south of the Arctic Circle. It lies in Davis Strait that separates Baffin Island and Greenland. The island was named by American Arctic explorer Charles Hall while searching for answers to the fate of Sir John Franklin’s lost expedition, lost while trying to find the Northwest Passage.
Lady Franklin was his widow; but more than that, she was a most remarkable world traveller, and spent 12 years in the Arctic searching for her husband.
