Cruises from Iony Island
Iony Island, or Jonas' Island, is a tiny island in the Sea of Okhotsk, Russia. It lies 240 km east of the mainland’s Far East region of Russia. The island is just 1.6 km by 850 m, and its sheer cliffs rise to a conical peak of 165 m. It is surrounded by smaller jagged rocks, and is often enveloped in dense fog. From the mid 19th C the waters were a hunting ground for bowhead whales, and in the late 19th C fur seals were hunted on the island.
