Cruises from Inverness
Inverness (“Mouth of the River Ness”) in the Scottish Highlands is the northernmost city in the UK, on the far NE coast of Scotland. Cruise ships dock at the deepwater Port of Invergordon on Cromarty Firth, greeted by piper and pipe band. Excursions take passengers to Loch Ness, Dunrobin Castle, Whisky Distilleries and golf courses in the area. Inverness is about 36 km to the south.
Today high-tech businesses have replaced traditional distilleries, but Highland Games and bagpipes are very much part of life. Gaelic, once the majority first language, is now spoken by just 5%. Inverness is regarded as the capital of the Highlands of Scotland.
