Cruises from Floreana
Floreana is one of the Galápagos Islands of Ecuador. As the island is relatively flat and has a plentiful supply of fresh water, and animals for food, numerous ships over the past two hundred years would call in. How did those who passed through cleverly use this known fact to their advantage? A ‘Free Post Office’ was subsequently set up.
Consisting of a slightly protected wooden barrel, anyone was welcome to place carefully addressed letters and cards into the barrel, and other visitors would always check the barrel and then do their best to take the mail to the correct address.
