Cruises visiting Inhaca Island & all Inhaca Island cruises for  2019

View Inhaca Island 2019 cruises for 1 ships listing 13 cruises from Inhaca Island with today's best deals!

Inhaca Island is an island off the coast of the southern tip of Mozambique, an African country that has a 2500km coastline facing the island of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean. The island is small (12km by 7km) and encloses Maputo Bay. Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, is 30km to the west on the mainland. The island is regular destination for ecotourists and ecological researchers. The island has cultivated fields, grassy plains, dune forests to the east, and extensive mud flats. There are coral reefs to the west (not in the best condition). Whale sharks, manta rays and humpback whales appear seasonally.

The island is almost deserted, with a small village that provides local colour and souvenirs, and some good hotel/resort facilities that provide a vibrant night life. Visitors arrive from Maputo by boat or air, or arrive from Durban by cruise ship, to relax on the white sandy beaches lined by coconut palms. Activities include snorkelling diving on the bay side in winter, BBQs (braais)on the beach, game fishing, and visiting the markets.

At the northern end of the island is the Maputo Marine Reserve for dolphins, turtles, pelicans, flamingos and a whole array of large sea life. Walk on a guided tour to the Inhaca Lighthouse on the NE of the island and to the Marine Biology Museum which displays the animal, plant and fish life of the island. Just to the NW of Inhaca is the small Portuguese Island, great for swimming, snorkelling, and resting under beach shades. Small motor boats take you there. Buy all your drinks and small items from beach sellers.
