Port de Pollensa (aka Pollença) is a seaside town situated on the north coast of the island of Majorca in the Western Mediterranean Sea. Facing a horseshoe bay with marina and sandy beaches, the town’s 17th and 18th century narrow streets and houses take one back to a medieval era. The central square, dominated by a 13th century church built by the Knights Templar, is surrounded by cafés. North of the square is a 365-step stairway leading to a chapel atop a hill. Behind the town is the impressive Tramuntana mountain range.

Take a tour to Cape Formentor (about 10 km to the east), and enjoy fantastic views of the bay of Pollensa, as well as visiting the beach of Formentor. Take in the views from its lighthouse. On the way don’t miss the panoramic view from Mirador Es Colomer, and make most of the opportunity to take some beautiful photos. The scenery is an artist’s paradise, with blue waters alongside white beaches. In 2001 it was voted the favourite holiday destination of the world by readers of the UK’s Sunday Times. The town of Pollensa is six kilometres away inland from the port.

For birdwatchers wishing to visit Mallorca, Puerto Pollensa makes the perfect base as it is close to the Albufuera marsh, the mountains in the north of the island and the sea cliffs of Formentor. There are also several great birdwatching spots within walking distance of the town, including the Boquer valley which is great for migrants. If you come during the spring migration season (especially mid-April to mid-May) you'll meet lots of other birdwatchers and get plenty of information on what's about.
