Enkhuizen, formerly the Herring City, is a port located on IJsselmeer lake (formerly Zuiderzee), in the province of North Holland in the Netherlands. It was a key harbour-town for the Dutch East Indies Company around the 1650s, but as the harbour silted up its trade went to Amsterdam 50km to the south. Arnhem, capital of the province of Gelderland in the Netherlands, is located on both banks of the rivers Nederrijn and Sint-Jansbeek, the Dutch part of the River Rhine. It lies 16 km from the German border. The two Battles of Arnhem (1944, 1945) are well known for their WW11 historical roles, and later the 1977 movie A Bridge Too Far. Kinderdijk is a small village at a distance of only 16 km from Rotterdam and a little less than 10 km from the city border of the oldest city in Holland, Dordrecht. Veere is a picturesque village in SW Netherlands, located on Walcheren island in the province of Zeeland (‘Sealand’, large parts of which are below sea level; and has given its name to ‘New Zealand’). It lies close to the southern part of the North Sea, and 30 km north of Belgium. The city faces Veerse Meer inland lake that was blocked off in 1961 from the North Sea by Veerse Gat 5km to the north, built as part of the Delta Plan to prevent flooding following the disaster of 1953.
