Ships based in Australia: Carnival Spirit | Carnival Legend (across our summers)

Carnival Cruises, the world’s largest brand with 25 ships, delivers a well-packaged cruise vacation. The Line was awarded the Best Value for Money in 2014 by Cruise Critic US Editors’ Pick and Porthole Cruise Magazine Readers’ Choice. Three Carnival ships sail from Los Angeles to the Mexican Riviera, and 19 ships cruise the Caribbean from mainland USA states. All of the US-based cruises are 3- to 8-nights, offering short breaks where water sports and the ship’s “Fun Ship” activities are the attractions. Outside of the US are Carnival Spirit and Carnival Legend: “Australianised” (no tipping, and local tastes in entertainment), sail from Sydney, and offer longer itineraries to the Pacific islands, with occasional cruises to Hawaii and Singapore. Many staterooms are inter-connecting for family groups. Outside Australia a USD12 daily tip is charged automatically, or can be pre-paid.

Carnival ships with their “whale’s tail” funnels are all-American – exciting, noisy, and organised fun. Children 2-5 (“Penguins”), 6-8 (“Sting Rays”) and 9-11 (“Sharks”) in the Kids Club program will enjoy over 200 different games and activities. Circle C and Club 02 cater for teenagers. Adults have their own sunbathing area. Parents can have a night off once per voyage, where for a small fee children will be supervised way past midnight. Main dining is a social occasion. A Carnival cruise is, seriously, a week of FUN. Reserved dining at alternative restaurants offers refined cuisine. Large show lounges deliver Las Vegas-style entertainment. North American cruises operate occasionally to visit Alaska, Canada and New England. No Carnival ships are based in Europe. Smoking is permitted on all Carnival ships in specified venues and on balconies.
