Life aboard Costa Magica
Costa Magica shares each year between the Continent and Mediterranean, with the Eastern Caribbean. From December to March each year Costa Magica runs two different one-week cruises from the French port of Basse-Terre, Guadeloupe, to the eastern chain of Caribbean islands that border on the Atlantic. Guests can join two itineraries for a two-week holiday. Around June to September Costa Magica sails from Stockholm in a six-night circuit of the Baltic Sea, including St Petersburg (overnight), Helsinki and Tallinn. For the other months Costa Magica offers 3- to 6-night circuits of the Western Mediterranean. Around March and December every year take a transatlantic crossing and visit two continents at a good fare.

Built in 2004, at 102,587 GT and with 2,718 passengers, Costa Magica boasts a high balcony ratio, an alternative restaurant, and a decorating scheme based on some of her most fascinating destinations. “Cruise Italian style.” Most guests are from North American, Italy, Spain, France and Germany. Everyone feels comfortable, from singles to families. Costa allows parents to go on shore excursions while their children are in their club areas. Spa and fitness amenities are extensive. The stern pool can be enjoyed in all weather with its retractable glass roof.

Accommodation
Of the 1,358 passenger cabins sixty-two percent have a balcony (the others having portholes or windows). There are 64 suites, from junior to penthouse. Many cabins cater for four guests. Cabins are fairly basic, with a queen that converts to twins, one chair, a vanity/desk, a mini-fridge, and compact bathroom with shower. Ice is supplied daily to the rooms.

All cabins and suites have large televisions with programming in many languages, though only one in English. Mini-suites feature a pull-out couch; and larger suites have separate seating areas, marble bathrooms with whirlpool baths, and a double-wide balcony. There are two single cabins, and about 20 wheelchair-accessible cabins.

Food and Dining
Each of the two dining rooms – Costa Smeralda Restaurant and Portofino Restaurant – is two decks high, and has two seatings. Over 50 types of pasta feature on the menus. The Vincenza Tavernetta Club is the upscale dining venue (reservations and cover charge), set beneath the stars under a giant glass dome. Alternatively, Club Grand Conte 1927, at the top of the ship, is the ultimate onboard restaurant for a romantic experience (along with piano player).

For breakfast, lunch, and afternoon pizzas, expect casual fare at the Bellagio Buffet Restaurant. In the evening this converts to a candle-lit pizzeria. Excellent coffees are available in the 11 bars around the ship. Room service provides a continental breakfast and snacks.

Entertainment
The three-tiered Urbino Theatre is the ship's main show lounge, with theatrical productions aimed at its European passengers, mixed with acrobatics and magic. Entertainment is everywhere, something for everyone: elegant dancing, acrobatics, magic, jazz, and elaborate theatrical productions. Dancing is most popular in venues such as the Salento and Capri lounge. There are three decks full of lounges, with whole families joining the activities. For night-time fun and excitement you'll find a casino, a disco, and a multimedia area. There are lively art auctions, bingo, and games around the pools and in the lounges.

The Saturnia Spa features a large solarium, treatment rooms, sauna and steam rooms, beauty parlour, gymnasium, and aerobics with instructors. There are four pools (including one beneath a retractable cover, and one for children), waterslide and whirlpools. For peace and quiet try the Lido Colombo with covering and two whirlpools. Other amenities include a multipurpose sports pitch, tennis court with stadium seating, and outdoor jogging track. Squok Club with its multilingual staff caters for four age groups ranging from 3 to 17 years.
