Life aboard Costa Luminosa
Costa Luminosa shares her year between the Mediterranean and Caribbean Seas. From March to November Luminosa sails from Venice over 7 nights to ports in the Adriatic Sea and Greece with its islands. This is probably the most popular region of the Mediterranean. The Caribbean cruises are based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Consider a transatlantic cruise, either way, between Fort Lauderdale and one of the major ports in the Mediterranean. Experience ‘The Italian Way’ of cruising.

The 92,700 GT, 2,260-passenger Costa Luminosa entered service in 2009. She is a sister ship to Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth. It represents a new, smaller design for Costa Cruises (that can traverse the Panama Canal). The interior is dazzlingly bright, as her name suggests. Other features include a 4-D cinema, roller skating, Sony Playstation3 game consoles in every stateroom, 18-hole golf simulator, outdoor putting green, Grand Prix racing car simulator, and an outdoor big screen on the central pool deck. The vessel appeals to new travellers, higher-spending clientele, expanding to North American passengers.

Accommodation
Of the 1,130 staterooms in this new vessel two thirds have an ocean view. Of these 662 come with balconies and 106 are suites with balconies. Inside cabins number 180. Fifty-two staterooms and four suites are built around and have direct access to the Samsara Spa, for guests who want to focus on health and well-being while travelling; and dine in the Samsara Restaurants. Suites come with pillow menu, bathrobes, walk-in closet, and other extras.

Standard cabins are reasonably spacious, and amenities include shower, queen bed that converts to twins, a sofa (some folding out to make an additional bed), a desk/vanity and a flat-screen television. At the top end is the Panorama, with wraparound balcony and dining area overlooking the aft of the ship. It includes a vanity, desk, queen bed that converts to twins, seating area and lovely bathroom with Jacuzzi tub and two sinks. Suite-dwellers have access to lots of perks, from concierge service to priority embarkation. Television programs come in many languages, though only one in English. There are no single cabins, and 12 wheelchair-accessible cabins.

Food and Dining
The two-deck high Taurus Restaurant is the main dining venue, with two seatings for dinner. The more intimate Club Restaurant (by reservation and with cover charge) provides specialty a la carte dining prepared a la minute under the guidance of a master chef. Expect a mixture of European dishes, with Italian cuisine a stand-out. The Ristorante Buffet Andromeda is the self-serve casual eatery, with European and North American type choices.

Albatross is open for breakfast and lunch on an open-seating basis. Eat breakfast or lunch next to the main pool at Lido Dorado. The ship's boutique Luminosa Club Restaurante (with cover charge) is a real treat and not to be missed. The Samsara Restaurant serve non-Samsara guests if there is room, also for a cover charge. Caffeteria Sugar is always crowded by devotees of chocolates and sweets.

Entertainment
The three-level Phoenix Theatre, with over 800 seats, presents grand productions with the latest computer-controlled lighting - quite breath-taking. Relax with a tropical drink in the Antares Piano Bar with its dance floor. Lie back in the 4D Cinema in seats that move, and wind, fragrances and water sprays are part of the special effects. The Disco with its giant screen, laser effects and greatest hits of all time is the place to let your hair down. If you need quiet time, try the Library-Internet centre with its timber and leather warmth. Other features are the Casino, and Grand Bar for drinks and, again, dancing.

The 3500 m2 Samsara Spa, winner of a prestigious Best Spa award, is the place to relax amid a selection of treatments, including a Thalassotherapy pool, sauna,Turkish bath and Solarium. The ship also has jogging and roller-skating tracks, an 18-hole championship golf simulator, a Grand Prix race car simulator, and putting green overlooking the ocean. Children from age 3 upwards have their exclusive Squok Club, and teenagers have their virtual world of technology in the PlayStation centre where PS3 consoles are offered.
