We use & recommend Viator.com otherwise search online & call us if you need help. Or just rent a taxi/pushbikes/tour/charter from the wharf when you berth, often the best value but be among the first ashore!
Keep in mind that if you go it alone and something happens like the taxi/bus breaks down and you end up being late back to the ship it will not wait for you unless it is advised. On the other hand if it is a ship-booked tour there are no problems as they are in contact with the tour companies.
Micronesia is full of maritime history, with many epic battles fought in the region in the last century. The islands share an interesting combination of Japanese, American and Island cultures. Scuba diving and water activities are very popular for visitors. Micronesia lies in the Western Pacific north of the Equator, between New Guinea and Japan. Its thousands of small islands are havens for diving amidst coral reefs shared with sunken ships, planes and submarines that are legacies of WWII. Chuuk is home to one of the great underwater museums of the world, Guam offers duty-free status, and Saipan hosts hordes of Japanese tourists, with its golf courses and resorts.
Vessels generally call at a port in Micronesia as part of a world cruise. Occasionally small explorer ships visit Micronesia, though not as often as they visit Melanesia (from Papua New Guinea across the Solomon Islands to Fiji) in the South Pacific. The smaller the ship the more opportunities visitors have to immerse themselves in local island activities.
The Australian expedition ship National Geographic Orion departs Cairns in April 2014 for a 19-night cruise via the Great Barrier Reef and New Guinea to five island of Micronesia. This is your only opportunity to immerse yourself in this part of the world. Zodiak craft visit shorelines, explore under-water, and enjoy great cultural experiences. HAL’s Amsterdam makes a 75-night cruise of the North Pacific ex Vancouver in September 2013, calling at four Micronesian islands.

Featured Micronesia Cruise Ports
| Cruises from Guam The Island of Guam, the western-most (or should we say eastern-most?) territory of the United States, is an island in Micronesia in the western South Pacific Ocean, about three-quarters of the way from Hawaii to the Philippines. Along the Tumon Bay beachfront, the island's glitzy duty-free shopping centre is a shopper’s paradise, while the gleaming white sand and crystal clear, warm waters for swimming, snorkelling, or just relaxing, are equally as appealing. In Tumon visit the Dulce Nombre de Maria Cathedral Basilica, and the National Museum of the Dulce Nombre de Maria that features changing displays of inspirational art created by local artists. Interestingly, many visitors now take the time to visit the entire island. Of particular interest are the many historical sites from the World War II era, such as taking a 50m dive to explore a sunken Japanese Zero fighter, plane. |
