The Gulf of Papagayo is a large body of water off Guanacaste province and the NW coast of Costa Rica. Surrounded by unspoiled dry tropical forest and dazzling topography, the Gulf of Papagayo is the ideal setting for nature lovers and beachgoers seeking to plunge themselves into the national parks of the province, Of course, the Gulf of Papagayo is most famous for its beaches, such as Ocotal Beach, Playas del Coco, Playa Hermosa, and Playa Panama. Here the sun shines throughout the day, heating the white-sand coast and the immaculate aquamarine sea.

Other activities include: taking the Borinquen Adventure Day, an exciting combination of horseback riding, zip lining and soaking in hot springs; touring the Santa Rosa National Park that is the sight of Costa Rica’s most important monument, the Hacienda Santa Rosa; taking the Safari Float tour where families can float down a gorgeous and gentle jungle river, surrounded by nature and wildlife; and indulging your adventurous side with a visit to the underground caves at Barra Honda National Park. Immersed in stunning natural beauty, it is no wonder that the gulf is experiencing an unprecedented boom in tourism.

Sport fishing, scuba diving, and snorkelling are also popular, while for those simply wanting to relax, tropical trees sway in the breeze at the edge of the beach, providing shade from the burning sun. Other popular activities include birding in the region’s dry tropical forests, and exploring the volcanic landscape of the Guanacaste Mountains. In close proximity to the gulf are a number of national parks, including Santa Rosa, Marino las Baulas, Guanacaste, and Rincon de la Vieja, which provide visitors opportunities to explore the natural inland terrain.
