P&O Australian Fleet continues to grow
Carnival Australia has announced changes to its local cruise line deployments to cater for the growing popularity of cruise holidays from Australian ports.

Under the changes, Princess Cruises’ Australian-based Dawn Princess will move to the P&O Cruises Australia fleet in May 2017.

At 77,000 tonnes, the 2000-guest Dawn Princess will be the largest superliner to sail under the P&O Cruises’ flag. The renamed ship will be the sixth in P&O's Australia-based fleet after two ex-Holland America Line ships, Ryndam and Statendam, are also handed over next month.

P&O Cruises Senior Vice President Sture Myrmell said Dawn Princess would be transformed before her transfer to the P&O Cruises’ fleet. “This ship is a great addition to P&O Cruises’ fleet, with her larger size opening up opportunities for new onboard product and experiences,” Mr Myrmell said.

Princess Cruises isn’t missing out though, with the 108,000-tonne Golden Princess remaining in Australian waters throughout 2017, alongside Sun Princess and Sea Princess, and Emerald Princess relocating for 2016-17 Summer. Stay tuned for itineraries and further updates.

Norwegians in Australia
Norwegian Cruise Line has marked the opening of the company’s first office the Pacific Region, with a new sales and marketing centre based in Sydney, Australia. The new office signifies the further international expansion of the company to support a growing worldwide demand for cruise travel.

The office represents the company’s three brands: Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises. Industry veteran Steve Odell is leading the office as senior vice president and managing director Australia & New Zealand for Norwegian Cruise Line.

“Today marks an exciting day in the history of our company, as we further expand our global team to serve the greater Australasia region,” said Odell.

“With this new office, we can now better support our travel partners as they serve their guests across the spectrum from contemporary to luxury cruising, offering sales and marketing support and a dedicated Sydney based call centre for our three brands.”

The new office is part of Norwegian Cruise Lines growing commitment to the Australian Cruise Market, beginning with the newly-refurbished Norwegian Star placement out of Sydney in January 2017.

Carnival Spirit's Better than ever!
The battle lines have been drawn for the coming cruise seasons between two of Australia’s favourite lines – Carnival Australia and P&O Cruises. Just weeks after P&O showed off the newly refurbished Pacific Jewel and The Pantry eatery, Carnival has taken up the challenge with new food outlets aboard The Carnival Spirit.

She boasts seven new restaurants and bars, including a burger restaurant featuring dishes from American celebrity chef, Guy Fieri. Another new standout is the Bluelguana Cantina and Tequila Bar.

Our very own Carli Fergusson was onboard for two nights and she gives the Spirit the thumbs up. “I went on the Carnival Spirit before the refurbishment and it was great, but it’s even better now. There is much more to do and eat. The food at the burger joint and the cantina is unbeatable. I wouldn’t even need to go to the buffet onboard the Spirit ever again. Since the food on the top deck is also included in the price, it’s an absolutely great deal."

Carnival has also refurbished the kids area, which Carli says is already a big hit. “They have everything in there – Wiis, Playstations, everything. It looks fresh and inviting and a fun place to hang out. Carnival has also refurbished the pool and it looks spectacular. But the best part is they now have the Dive-In outdoor movie theatre. Overall, this ship is the best I’ve been on so far. It’s so much fun and there is plenty to do for the entire family.”

P&O Trialling Drinks Package
P&O Cruises Australia has begun trialling its first alcoholic beverage package aboard Pacific Pearl, and the good news for drinkers is the surprise new offering is looking highly likely to be rolled out across the five-ship Australian fleet.

Soft launched last month, the “Premium Beverage” package is priced at AU$69 per adult per day during the trial period and includes wine, beer and spirits up to the value of AU$12, plus bottled water, soft drinks, coffee and tea. Expected to be available on cruises of seven nights or longer, the package is non-transferable with only one drink allowed to be ordered at a time.

It is only available for purchase on the first two days of the cruise (embarkation day and the following day) and must be purchased for the full voyage. A P&O Cruises spokesperson said the introduction of the package was “in line with the growing quality and was similar to packages offered by other cruise lines."

“P&O Cruises has taken great care in developing the package as a convenient option for guests and is confident that the trial will be successful, with fine-tuning able to be made as necessary,” the spokesperson said.
