Antarctica

Experience Antarctica
The last-frontier ice desert of Antarctica attracts 45,000 visitors a year to view its windswept, treeless, frozen wasteland. Wildlife on show includes penguins, seals, birds, dolphins and orcas. Since most of the wildlife in Antarctica is found on the ice-free narrow ridges of coastline around the islands and mainland, cruise passengers don't have to miss out on any of the interesting sea, land or air creatures of this exciting continent.

Antarctica

Commonwealth Bay
An open bay about 48 km wide at the entrance between Point Alden and Cape Gray in Antarctica. It was discovered by the Australian Antarctic Expedition under Douglas Mawson in 1912. The main base of the expedition was established at Cape Denison at the head of the bay.
Mawson's huts historic site, with its timber buildings of national and international importance, eerie grave sites, and lonely, yet beautiful scenery, makes it an unusual, but fascinating place to visit.
The presence of numerous Adelie penguins diving and feeding their chicks, Weddell seals, and the bird species, South Pole Skua and Wilsons Storm Petrel', certainly add to the beauty, especially when seen against the backdrop of the striated icebergs. An inspiring destination for all.

Antarctica

Antarctic Peninsula
The Antarctic Peninsula is the northernmost part of the mainland of Antarctica, and includes numerous islands and connecting ice sheets which reach to within 1600 km of the southernmost tips of Chile and Argentina.
Antarctica's two flowering plant species are found on the northern and western parts of the peninsula which adds to the photographers' creativity. Fish live in sub-zero temperatures, great varieties of penguins are abundantly evident, numerous birds including petrels, giant petrels and even cormorants add to the atmosphere ,while vocalizations of the Sei Whale can often be heard emanating from the waters.

Kirsten's dream becomes a reality
One of our top cruise specialists, Kirsten Ball was lucky enough to experience the wonders of Antarctica, returning this week from her dream trip.
This week we share with you Kirsten's experience as well as some of her AMAZING photos.

"Visiting Antarctica had been a dream of mine for many years, and this summer I was lucky enough to get down there. I also got to experience the amazing wildlife of the Falkland Islands and incredibly remote South Georgia. Words cannot describe the incredible beauty of the great white continent. " it doesn't matter how many penguins/seals/whales you encounter – you simply can't get enough!"

Antarctica

"I've been fortunate enough to travel to some incredible destinations over the past few years, but Antarctica was without a doubt the absolute greatest and something I will remember forever." It's hard to pick a favourite moment – being approached by curious penguins (and chased by vicious fur seals!), humpback whales swimming under our zodiacs, or simply sitting in the snow and absorbing it all – it truly was the trip of a lifetime, and I can't wait to go back and do it all over again!"
