Carnival Spirit - Calling Australia Home

Carnival Spirit's Aussification
The Carnival Cruise Lines countdown begins… four months from now, Aussies can 'wake up to something new' when Carnival Spirit arrives in her new Sydney Harbour home. Before making her way down-under in October, Carnival Cruise Lines has brought the Aussie Spirit to Carnival Spirit with $7 million worth of brand spanking new experiences.

Making waves on-board will be Carnival Spirit's star attraction - Green Thunder (click to see a video) - the world's steepest and fastest waterslide at sea. The excitement starts when the slide's floor drops and the slider falls 10 metres almost vertically before rocketing out the side of the ship and looping around just in time to splash down and catch their breath. In a national search to choose a name for this slide, created with adventure-loving Aussies in mind, Tasmanian, Elke Faulwetter had the winning suggestion. She will be flown to the US in January for the slide's inauguration on Carnival Spirit, to be one of the first to experience Green Thunder in all its glory.

And if this 55-metre slide of pure adrenalin doesn't get the heart racing, there's plenty more where that came from in Carnival Spirit's new WaterWorks. This water playground like no other is the ultimate fun-in the-sun for little ones and the young at heart. Spiral round and round the Twister Waterslide, get soaked in the Splash Park with the new "Power Drencher" tipping bucket or race down the two mini racing slides - all of which are guaranteed to entertain the family for hours.

Feel exhausted yet? Chill out and unwind in 'Serenity' - one of the largest child-free retreats on a cruise ship, with an open-air deck, pool, heated spa, hammocks, plush lounges and cocktail bar. Entry is free of charge for all guests over the age of 18.

For breakfast, lunch, dinner and everything in between, Carnival Spirit's dining options will leave guests spoilt for choice – sushi, fine dining in the Nouveau restaurant, 24 hour pizza and ice cream and other yummy foodie options served-up in an Aussie and International menu. Changes to the menu will include more lamb, fresh fruit, vegetables and "Aussie" bacon instead of American bacon. Plus, new on Spirit, Carnival Cruise Lines is bringing the iconic 'Aussie backyard BBQ' to sea with its outdoor barbeque restaurant serving up snags, skewers and more, all with beautiful open ocean views.

There's no need to worry about indulging either, with Carnival Spirit's state-of-the-art gym in the two-deck fitness centre and outdoor jogging track with panoramic views of the ocean. Just for fitness-loving Aussies, the Fitness Centre will receive $450,000 in upgrades including new cardio and strength training equipment.

And day and night, families with up to four children can stay close without compromising on space when staying in one of the 86 interconnecting cabins – all of which include at least one balcony cabin.

So what else is in store for Aussies? Well, all the things to keep holiday-goers in the luxury they're accustomed to – Coffee lovers will be treated to locally 'accepted' beans and the search for Australia's best barista will commence on Facebook. The winner will train the on-board baristas to ensure Aussie standards are adhered to. Americans like to drink beer out of bottles, while Australians enjoy tap beer, so new draft beer taps will also be fitted as well as altering the wine list to include Australian and New Zealand wines.

Aussie power points will be fitted in all of the staterooms, as well having Australian currency on-board. From the steam rooms, to Jacuzzis, from balcony floors to the paintwork, everything has been designed with loving care to provide Aussies with the quality they would expect.

Those sailing from Sydney this October will also get to experience their own Aussie Cruise Director, Stu Dunn, who will be ensuring Australians have a menu of 'good-time options on board', with a tailor-made entertainment program.

Guests can test their knowledge of Aussie trivia, laugh out loud with Aussie comedians and dance the night away to live music in one of the 16 bars and lounges. Kids and teens of all ages will have a blast with toys, arts, crafts and pool parties or can just hang out together at one of the three dedicated kids clubs, which are supervised by Carnival Cruise Lines' trained and experienced Youth Staff.
