Long term car parking is not too far away from each terminal. During the crowded summer season cruise ships occasionally tender passengers from Athol Buoy and Point Piper Buoy. Milford Sound is a stunningly beautiful fjord in the SW of New Zealand's South Island and lying within a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Described by Rudyard Kipling as the 'eighth wonder of the world', it has been judged 'the world's top travel destination' in an international survey, and is acclaimed as New Zealand's most famous tourist destination. Milford Sound runs 15 km inland from the Tasman Sea and is surrounded by sheer rock faces, such as the Elephant and Lion Peaks that rise to 1200 m or more on either side. Lush rain forests cling precariously to these cliffs, and seals, penguins and dolphins frequent the waters, while whales are sometimes seen. more info

Doubtful Sound, despite its name, is a very large and naturally imposing fjord in the far SW of New Zealand. It is located in the same region as the smaller but more famous and accessible Milford Sound, but it is three times longer, and has a surface area ten times larger. Often referred to as the 'Sound of Silence', Doubtful Sound is a tranquil, awe-inspiring destination known for its cascading waterfalls, looming mountains and rare marine life. Dusky Sound is a fjord on the SW corner of New Zealand, in Fjordland National Park. In 1770 it was given its name by Captain Cook and his crew as that was the time of night when they found it. They encountered groups of shy Maoris, but nowadays the area is almost uninhabited. However, seal numbers have increased since the ban on seal hunting. The myriad islands that lie in the sound make for spectacular sightseeing, particularly majestic Resolution Island, whose Five Fingers Peninsula shelters the sound from the north-west. more info

Dunedin is the principal city of the Otago Region of New Zealand. It was founded in 1848 by Scottish migrants, and today the city still contains many Scottish relics, including a statue of the Scottish Bard Robbie Burns. Fine examples of working heritage include the Speight’s Brewery, the Gasworks Museum and the very popular Taieri Gorge Railway. Then there are the standout Victorian and Edwardian buildings like First Church and Dunedin Railway Station, as well as the stately homes such as Larnach Castle and Olveston. Dunedin, or the Quirky Capital - named after its quirky annual events - is packed with historic architecture, cafes, bars, art galleries and New Zealand designer fashion. more info

Just 85 kilometres from the city of Christchurch, New Zealand, is the quaint and beautiful French village of Akaroa. It is situated within Akaroa Harbour in the heart of an ancient volcano that is now the circular Banks Peninsula. French settlers arrived in 1840 just a few days after the peninsula was claimed for Britain. The French settlers were granted land, and their heritage is preserved in the town with its colonial architecture, quaint shops, craft stores, and cafes where beautiful gardens invite visitors to relax and enjoy delightful refreshments. Auckland is New Zealand’s larget city (the capital Wellington is slightly smaller), multicultural, with the largest Polynesian population of any city in the world. The ‘City of Sails’ is located on an isthmus at the northern end of North Island, with harbours facing west to the Tasman Sea and east to the Pacific Ocean. The city straddles a dormant volcanic field with 48 volcanic cones. The cruise terminal berths at the city centre, with transport services and hop-on hop-off bus service at hand. Walk to the city centre’s iconic Sky Tower (and jump off with a harness). Places to visit in the city include the inner city park known as the Domain, and the picturesque suburb of Ponsonby, with its colonial era homes. more info

Radiance of the Seas Overview

In November 2020 Radiance of the Seas will home port at the new Brisbane International Cruise Terminal, giving access to the Sunshine Start and South Pacific. Between May and September each year Radiance of the Seas sails the fjords of Alaska and British Columbia over 7 nights, each way between Seward (the port for Anchorage) and Vancouver. For the adventurous with 37 nights to spare, depart September 2020 from Vancouver for Brisbane via Alaska, seven ports in Japan, then Hong Kong and Singapore – very relaxing. This is a family-friendly ship: babies (six to 17 months) and toddlers (18-36 months) have a dedicated nursery, so children can be left with trained professionals for a small fee. Radiance of the Seas entered service in 2001 at 90,090 GT, was refurbished in 2016, and carries 2112 passengers.

Accommodation

Staterooms come in four main categories and 19 grades, with variations based on guests’ needs: Suite/Deluxe Staterooms, Balcony Staterooms, Outside Staterooms and Interior Staterooms. When selecting accommodation consider the view, the level of privacy, and location near to or far from activity areas. All staterooms come with private bathroom, vanity area, hair dryer, interactive TV and phone. Many cabins are family-friendly with up to four additional bunk beds, and interconnecting rooms. There are no single cabins, and many are wheelchair-accessible. In-cabin service and dining is available 24-hours.

Food and Dining

For the Main Dining Room, spread over two levels, select from three dining choices before cruising: fixed seating at the same table nightly, at either early or late sitting; open-seated My Time Dining (with pre-paid gratuities) at a flexible time; and early sitting My Family Time Dining that allows children aged 3 to 11 years to leave for their Adventure Ocean kids club. Menus feature healthy, vegetarian and kosher options. Special dietary needs can be catered for by giving advanced notice. Menus change daily throughout the cruise. Evening dress is casual or smart casual. Expect one to three formal evenings in the Main Dining Room during your cruise. Other complimentary eating options include buffet-style Windjammers Café, Park Café, and 24-hour room service.

Entertainment

A signature feature of RCI vessels is a Broadway-style production in the Main Theatre. A second entertainment centre is the Colony Club, with its music, dancing, comedy and cabaret shows. Try your hand at gaming in Casino Royale. Live music features around the pool, in the main dining room, and in many lounges, bars and specialty venues. There are always parties and parades to join. Alternatively, just stroll around and shop duty-free, or for a quiet time retire to the Library/Card Room or Internet Café.
