Cruise ships berthed at Sydney’s Overseas Passenger Terminal (OPT) access sweeping views of the harbour, Opera House, CBD, Circular Quay ferry terminal, and Sydney Harbour Bridge – all within a few minutes’ walk. The White Bay Cruise Terminal for mid-sized vessels that can pass under the Bridge docks two cruise ships. White Bay is 30 minutes’ drive by taxi or shuttle bus from the CBD and Central Station, or take a ferry from Circular Quay (am) or Darling Harbour (pm) on cruise days. Long term car parking is not too far away from each terminal. During the crowded summer season cruise ships occasionally tender passengers from Athol Buoy and Point Piper Buoy. QM2 has docked at Garden Island Naval Base. more info

Approaching Brisbane River via beautiful Moreton Bay is a scenic delight. The most commonly used Portside Wharf Cruise Terminal is 14 km up-river and 6 km from the CBD, but only accessible to ships that clear the twin Gateway Bridges and less than 270m in length. Regular users of this terminal are P&O Australia and Princess vessels. They sail to the South Pacific, Great Barrier Reef, New Zealand, and PNG. Larger cruise ships berth at the commercial Port of Brisbane (Fisherman Island) at the river mouth, 25 km from the CBD. Smaller ships also berth here when Portside is fully booked. The new Brisbane International Cruise Terminal on the north side of the river mouth will open October 2020. It will berth the world's largest cruise ships. more info

Suva is the capital and largest city of Fiji, perched on a hilly peninsula between Laucala Bay and Suva Harbour in the SE corner of the island of Viti Levu. It is a beautiful tropical city full of colour and diverse cultures. Although it is the only place in Fiji where you will see buildings taller than palm trees, local folk traditions such as fire walks, welcoming ceremonies, wood-carving and the fabrication of tree-bark cloth, remain strong. Hire a taxi for the day or take a tour and enjoy its tall modern buildings which are beautifully balanced by rich traditional colonial architecture. Pago Pago Bay (pronounced "Pango Pango") on the island of Tutuila is the capital of American Samoa, a chain of seven South Pacific isles about 4,000 km south of Hawaii. Due to a massive seaward wall of a volcano collapsing aeons ago and opening to the sea, the harbor is hemmed in by towering mountains. Mt. Matafao (653m) and Mt. Alava (491m) form part of the National Park. Both have trails leading to their summits and offer spectacular views. Pago Pago is more village than city and the town is dominated by looming Rainmaker Mountain (3 peaks to 524m), giving Pago Pago the highest annual rainfall of any harbor in the world. Explore the ancient volcanoes and coral atolls, and walk the length of the town's water edge to experience village life. more info

Hilo is the largest settlement on The Big Island of Hawaii, the southernmost of the Hawaiian islands, in Polynesia. It overlooks Hilo Bay, at the base of active Mauna Loa (4169m) and dormant Mauna Kea (4207m) volcanoes. Hilo is an impressively beautiful town overlooking beaches, caves, rivers, and waterfalls within its limits. On the peak of Mauna Kea are some of the world’s best ground-based astronomical observatories. Hilo has a significant tourism section. The May 2018 eruptions from Mt Kilauea (1247 m, 42 km to the SW of Hilo) produced lava flows as close as 35 km to the SE of Hilo. more info

The scenic little village of Kailua, primarily a residential community, lies on the windward coast of the island of Hawaii, and is just 19 km from Honolulu. It is renowned for the Kailua Beach Park, the island of Oahu’s most beautiful beach, due to the offshore islands that add to its atmosphere, and where the surf is gentle and the sand is perfect. It is great for sunbathing and recreational activities, as well as being the beach used as a world-class windsurfing destination. Nawiliwili is a large beach park and port on the SE of the island of Kauai in the Hawaiian Islands. One of the wettest spots on Earth, with an annual average rainfall of over 11 meters, it is located on the east side of Mount Wai'ale'ale. The high annual rainfall has eroded deep valleys in the central mountains resulting in canyons with many scenic waterfalls. Sport fishing is excellent in the harbour while great snorkel and dive opportunities are also available. It also provides access to Poipu Beach, one of the best beaches in Hawaii as well as the opportunity to experience a helicopter tour. more info

Lahaina is the largest town in West Maui Hawaii and is the gateway to the famous Kaanapali and Kapalua beach resorts north of the town. The banyan tree in Courthouse Square is noteworthy for its size. As a strangling fig, it has grown by dropping roots from its branches that then become additional trunks, allowing it to cover two-thirds of an acre. Lahaina's Front Street, along the waterfront – with stores offering a broad variety of food and entertainment – has been ranked one of the ‘Top Ten Greatest Streets’ by the American Planning Association, and is on the National Register of Historic Places. more info

Sea Princess Overview

Sea Princess is based in Australia/New Zealand year round, and runs an annual World Cruise. For those wanting just a taste of cruising, or to get out of the office, there are 2-, 3- and 4-night ‘cruises to nowhere’. Here are some of the interesting 2020 itineraries from Australia: Around New Zealand (February); around Australia (March); around the Pacific via Hawaii (April); and around the world (May to August). The 2020 World Cruise of 106 nights departing May 2020 reaches the Arctic region – see the Midnight Sun and Aurora Borealis (hopefully). Embark at Auckland, Sydney or Brisbane. The 2021 World Cruise repeats the 2020 cruise, with the exception of swapping Norway’s Arctic region for Greenland. Accommodation

There are six main categories of staterooms - Suites with balcony, Mini-Suites with balcony, Balcony, Oceanview Deluxe, Oceanview, and Interior – and 28 grades, which give a broad choice according to guests’ needs of space and price. All cabins have pleasing décor and reasonable storage space, satellite TV, refrigerator, and 24-hour room service. Fresh fruit (by request), evening bed turn-down, bathroom lotions, and bathrobes (by request) come with every stateroom. Standard cabins are well-designed and functional. Some cabins accommodate a third and even a fourth person. Generally twin beds can be made up into a queen-size bed. Bedding is top quality. There are no interconnecting or single cabins. There are many wheelchair-accessible cabins, and guests with disabilities are well catered for. An in-cabin dining menu is available 24-hours.

Food and Dining

There are two main dining rooms (no Anytime Dining), and dinner is served in two set sittings in each dining room with the same waitstaff and assigned tables and tablemates. Dress code is smart casual, and on cruises longer than three days dress for a formal night for every week of sailing. Breakfast and lunch are provided in an open seating arrangement. (Of course a continental breakfast can be delivered to your stateroom, and there is a stateroom menu.) The alternative eating venue is Stirling Steakhouse (extra charge, reservations) for really good steak and barbecued chicken. Passengers booked in cabins with balconies can order several special, romantic meals to be served restaurant-style on the verandah - Ultimate Balcony Dining (cover charge).

Entertainment

In the evening having two show lounges (both theatre and cabaret style) is a great way to give passengers more entertainment choices. During her 2009 refurbishment additions included a Movies Under the Stars screen in the main pool area for new movie releases, sporting events and concert videos. Adults have their own private sunbathing area, the Sanctuary, at the front of the ship. Add seven bars and lounges, nightclub and dance floors, and the casino, to the list of evening options. Alternatively, just stroll around and shop duty-free, or for a quiet time retire to the Library/Card Room or Internet Café. Weddings are officiated by the Captain.
