Le Laperouse Overview

Le Lapérouse set sail under the French flag in June 2018. The ship sails between Japan in the north to New Zealand in the south, with a special focus on the Kimberley of NW Australia, Papua New Guinea, and Indonesia. Until November 2019 itineraries cover Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Hong Kong and Japan. From late November 2019 Le Lapérouse works her way south from Singapore via Indonesia and PNG to Darwin, Cairns, Sydney and Hobart. Visit the Australian Antarctic Division base on Macquarie Island, on the cruise departing Hobart in January 2020, or Dunedin in February 2020. In April 2020 visit nine tropical islands in the Solomon Islands and PNG. The ship is named after Jean-François de La Pérouse, the great French explorer who, along with James Cook, mapped the Pacific. La Pérouse was shipwrecked and disappeared in 1788 on Vanikoro in the Solomon Islands – a port of call on Ponant itineraries today.

Accommodation

All cabins have private balconies, air conditioning, two twins that can be pushed together to form a king-sized bed, shower, complimentary mini-bar, flat-screen TV with satellite TV and video on demand, a desk with stationery, iPod, safe, hair dryer, bathrobes and fine French bath products. Staterooms will be brand new, reflecting contemporary French design. Seventy-nine of the staterooms are for two guests, at 19 sq.m. with 4 sq.m. balcony and shower. Five De Luxe Suites for up to 3 guests are larger at 27 sq.m. Four Privilege Suites are larger again at 32 sq.m. and cater for four guests.

Food and Dining

The interior dining area is located on Deck 3, and seats 70. Here you will savor French gastronomy, serving grilled meats daily, along with a variety of salads and desserts. At the aft of Deck 4 you will find a 260 sq.m. panoramic restaurant that can accommodate all 184 guests in one sitting. Designed differently to that on the other Ponant ships, this dining area, which opens to an al fresco area, will offer a buffet of salads, desserts and cheeses. The attentive crew will provide à la carte service for hot meals.

Entertainment

The main theatre seats 188, comes equipped with the latest sound and lighting technology, and an LED wall as the stage backdrop for the projection of high-resolution images and videos. Presentations by naturalists, lecturers, experienced guides and specialists are delivered in the large main lounge. All cabins have direct access to On-Demand Videos. There’s a unique Blue Eye underwater lounge, with three underwater cameras that project screen images, as well as two underwater portholes that let you view directly what’s there beneath the water line – porpoises, whales . . ? As you recline and view life underwater, listen also to the subaquatic sounds pickup up by aquaphone.
