Ventura Overview

Ventura sails year round out of Southampton, UK, over 2 to 35-nights with itineraries that visit the Norwegian fjords, Iberian Peninsula, Spain in the Mediterranean, and the Canary Islands. If your time is limited, take a ‘get-away’ cruise of 2 to 4 nights to one of the Channel Isles, Belgium, or the Netherlands. You’ll find plenty of onboard activities for the sea days and nights between Southampton and distant itineraries. This is a family ship. In January and February of 2020 and 2021 she makes two 35-night cruises to the Caribbean. If you select a cruise that stays overnight at New Orleans, this will be a highlight of your journey. (Her name Ventura comes from Bonaventura – ‘good fortune’.)

Accommodation

There are five types of stateroom and 34 price grades. Fifty-seven percent of the cabins have a balcony. Staterooms have twin beds or king-sized bed, adjustable AC, safe, vanity writing desk with mirror, good storage areas, wide-screen TV (with major news channels, sports and movies), telephone, mini-fridge, tea/coffee-making facilities, daily steward service, and hair dryer. Inside staterooms have a picture mirror. Outsides have a picture window or porthole. Cabins with private balconies have sliding doors that open to a patio set with two recliner chairs and a small table. Some balcony cabins have a bath with shower. Suite and Penthouse Staterooms are much larger and come with many extras, including butler service. Allow for service and additional charges for, say, room-service dining, depending on the five types of accommodation.

Food and Dining

The ship has three main restaurants that offer six-course silver service traditional British dining, with a range of other cuisines. Opt for fixed seating at either of two set times for dinner, or anywhere at any table dining. The Beach House is a family self-service restaurant, where food is available all day. Alternative restaurants, at extra charge for non-suite guests, are: East, an Asian/Pacific Rim restaurant specialising in seafood and thai spices; The White Room, overseen by celebrity chef Marco Pierre White, is a waiter-served Italian restaurant for families, or intimate evening dining indoors or on the terrace overlooking the ship’s wake; and The Glass House, for steak and seafood grills with wines selected by sommelier Olly Smith.

Entertainment

The 800-seat two-deck Playhouse Theatre is an excellent venue for shows, with two large video screens either side of the stage. The in-house Headliners Production Company features outstanding song-and-dance presentations superbly produced for each P&O ship at its Southampton studios. The ship features a dance floor in the three-deck atrium. The Tamarind Club and Havana show lounge are the ship’s multi-cultural night venues with cabaret, live bands and dancing. A video wall in the Metropolis lounge screens real-time footage of seven of the world’s most famous skylines. On the top deck is a huge open-air cinema screen. The Retreat is an al fresco spa terrace for adults.
