Oceana Overview

Oceana spends one half of the year in the Mediterranean sailing from Malta, and the other half in the Middle East based in Dubai. From March to October each year Oceana sails out of Valetta (Malta) offering a variety of Mediterranean cruises. There are three 7-night cruises: To Venice and three ports along the Adriatic coast; to Civitavecchia (2 hours by rail from the Rome) and three ports on the west coast of Italy; and to Athens and Greek islands. For 14 nights you can join any two of the 7-night cruises. From November to the following March Oceana is based in Dubai. From there 10-night cruises visit UAE ports, Oman and Bahrain. This region is fast-growing in popularity. The cruise either way between Valetta and Dubai offers the special experience of crossing the Suez Canal. Families are well cared for.

Accommodation

More than 600 of the 975 cabins have an outside view and nearly half have balconies. As one expects in an elegant four-star vessel, staterooms are most comfortable, with excellent bedding and furnishings. There are seven types of stateroom and 25 price grades. Staterooms have twin beds (or king-sized bed), adjustable AC, safe, vanity writing desk with mirror, good storage areas, wide-screen TV (with major news channels, sports and movies), telephone, mini-fridge, tea/coffee-making facilities, daily steward service, and hair dryer. Inside staterooms have a picture mirror. Outsides have a picture window or porthole. Some outside cabins have a bath with shower. The balcony cabins are considerably larger with full-height glass doors that open to a patio set with two recliner chairs and a small table.

Food and Dining

Oceana has two principal dining rooms: choose fixed time dining in two sittings, or any-time dining. Breakfast and lunch are open-seated. Meals are British with plenty of curries, served attractively, and with great table service. Alternative (pay extra) restaurants are the Café Jardin bistro overlooking the four-deck atrium, and Horizon Grill al fresco for great steaks and seafood. During the day these venues become self-serve buffets offering an excellent range of fast food and casual meals. The casual Plaza buffet on Sun Deck has great views, and turns into a waiter-served bistro at night. Cabin service around the clock is free.

Entertainment

There are two show lounges: Footlights Theatre presents West End production shows and movies; and Starlights, which is a cabaret-style lounge. The in-house Headliners Production Company features outstanding song-and-dance presentations superbly produced for each P&O ship at its Southampton studios. Classical concerts and mini-versions of well-known musicals provide plenty of variety during the cruise. There are several wooden dance floors, and professional hosts and teachers of ballroom dance. For solitude retire to the library, writing room, or card tables. The Oasis Spa and Salon offer a full range of services including sauna and steam rooms, and are adjacent to a modern high-tech and well-supervised gymnasium.
