Iona Overview

P&O Cruises, the oldest cruise line in the world, introduces its newest and largest ship ever, MS Iona. She is named after a small Scottish island in the Inner Hebrides. Its inaugural cruise departs from Southampton on 23 May 2020. Iona’s inaugural season offers two 7-night itineraries that sail from Southampton to the Norwegian fjords. The selection of ports includes Stavanger, Olden, Alesund, Geiranger and Bergen. The itineraries also include a number of scenic cruises, so much of the daytime guests will spend on deck taking in the enthralling scenery. From September 2020 Iona sails from Southampton mostly 14-night cruises to ports in Spain, Portugal, and the Canary Islands, with six or seven sea days. This new ship, at 183,900 GT and with up to 5200 passengers, will be an attraction in itself. MS Iona will be the first cruise ship built for the British market to be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), to make her more environmentally friendly.

Accommodation

All cabins feature natural colours and soft furnishings creating a homely atmosphere. There are tea and coffee-making facilities (with biscuits provided daily), a well-stocked fridge, in-cabin TV with a host of channels, and a bathroom with soft cotton towels and quality toiletries. Cabin selections are: Inside (large and standard), Sea View (decks 4 and 5, with portholes), 26 Single cabins both inside and balcony, three types of Balcony cabins, and three types of Suites. All cabins have shower only apart from some of the suites. There are 22 wheelchair cabins.

Food and Dining

MS Iona has 17 restaurants, including 8 specialty restaurants, and 12 bars. There are four main dining rooms, and a first for the fleet – all dining is Freetime Dining, guests choosing just where, with whom and when for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Specialty dining, for a cover charge, is available in Sindhu for Indian cuisine by Atul Kochhar, Brodies for the best of British, Keel & Cow steakhouse cum gastropub, The Epicurean with British-Mediterranean specialties, the Beach House for dinner grills and seafood. The Limelight Club offers dinner and a show. The Glass House offers cheese, charcuterie, wines, along with good conversation. Check the dress codes as there are some formal evenings.

Entertainment

Cruising with MS Iona is suited to cosmopolitan British tastes. In the two-storey Headliners Theatre, with its stunning LED backdrop, take in West End style shows, and comedians you can really have a laugh with. The SkyDome is the place for relaxation – an English park in summer, and the pool covered at night becomes an entertainment venue, showcasing spectacular aerialist performances and playing host to party nights under the stars. Ocean Studios is where guests can take it easy and watch a range of films, from cinema classics to recent blockbusters, in this boutique-style cinema complex offering four screens. The music in 710 Club adults-only venue ranges from Rat Pack style to classic and modern jazz, rock songs, and acoustic covers. Take dancing lessons.
