Nieuw Statendam Overview

MS Nieuw Statendam is a sister ship to the Pinnacle Class MS Koningsdam. She is the sixth ‘Statendam’, the name of an old dike on the island of Goeree-Overflakkee, and the size of the ex-Ryndam and ex-Statendam joined together. By November 2019 Nieuw Statendam has left the Mediterranean for Fort Lauderdale, and then through to April 2020 she offers the choice of two 7-night cruises: one to ports in Turks and Caicos, Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands together with the company port at Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas; the other to Turks and Caicos, Key West, and two company ports – Half Moon Cay, and Amber Cove in the Dominican Republic. Many guests join these two itineraries to take a 14-night cruise. Then in April 2020 she heads for Amsterdam to sail the Baltic sea ports, the coast of Norway up to North Cape, and Iceland. See the Midnight Sun and Aurora Borealis. In September and October 2020 she offers ‘the best of the Mediterranean’, and then returns to the Caribbean.

Accommodation

Ms Nieuw Statendam features 32 family Oceanview staterooms, with two bathrooms, and room for up to five guests. There are also triple and quad cabins. The 12 solo cabins are available on multiple decks. All cabins feature modern touches, like bedside USB ports and flat-screen TVs with complimentary videos-on-demand. Stateroom classes are: Interior with Large, Standard, and Spa; Oceanview with family, single, large, and spa; and Verandah, with some obstructed, and 38 Spa Verandah staterooms. All cabins have showers. There are 24 wheelchair accessible cabins, 12 single cabins, many connecting staterooms, and bed selection can be queen-size or twin, with higher suites offering king-size or twin bed.

Food and Dining

The Main Dining Room features a two-story wine tower sculpture as the centerpiece. As you dine take in the wake of the ship, with sea views on three sides of the restaurant. Your Indonesian and Filipino stewards come with ready smiles and good service. Specialty restaurants, for an additional fee, are: the romantic Pinnacle Grill, new Sel de Mer for seafood, and Canaletto for Italian. The Culinary Arts Centre, on all HAL ships, is re-invented: With a new restaurant alongside its chefs’ kitchen, guests can create their dishes alongside a chef, or watch demonstrations. At night, experience ‘Dinner’. All the main dining is aft, adjacent to the lower floor of the atrium. Less formal meals are at the Lido Market buffet, with specialty stations: Breadboard, Wild Harvest (salads), Homestead, Distant Lands, and Sweet Spot (ice cream and desserts).

Entertainment

The two-storey Show Theatre, intriguingly, has a circular stage surrounded by the audience, and a 270 degree LED screen. Professional dancers will present five new productions supported by stage engineering that will dazzle. Three outstanding musical options are: the Lincoln Center Stage chamber music (seats 100); Billboard Onboard, with two pianos and a chance to join the singing; and B.B.King’s Blues Club. If you take a Theme Cruise, entertainment will especially focus on the theme. Dancing is in the two-deck Queen’s Lounge, with its orchestral stage and large dance floor. If food has a special attraction for you, then attend the Culinary Arts Center (seating 72) shows that feature cooking and cocktail classes, demonstrations and workshops.
