Carnival Dream Overview

Carnival Dream offers year-round departures from Galveston, Texas, with 4- and 5-night cruises to the Yucatan Peninsula, both with two sea days. The shorter cruise stops at the island of Cozumel for its water activities, re-constructed Mayan displays, and the mainland Maya ruins of Tulum and Coba (within a two hour drive). The longer cruise calls also at Progresso with its good shopping, beaches and Maya sites. The Yucatan Peninsula separates the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. The northern part that Carnival Dream visits is Mexican, and the of the Caribbean coastline known as Mexico’s Riviera Maya. These cruises are holiday breaks for Texans. Interestingly, cruise ships based in Galveston that mainly service the Yucatan Peninsula include Carnival’s Dream, Freedom and Vista, and Royal Caribbean’s Enchantment and Liberty. These account for around 13,500 passengers cruising out of Galveston every week.

Accommodation

Cabin categories include interior staterooms (10 grades), ocean view (7 grades), balcony (13 grades), and suites (four grades). Each of these categories has a “Cloud 9 Spa” variation, with complimentary spa access. Eighty percent of the cabins are outside; 80 percent of those staterooms have private balconies. Each cabin has a gift amenity basket in its bathroom. All staterooms include flat-screen TVs, safe, mini-bar, beach towels, hair dryer, bathrobes to wear during your cruise, and Carnival Comfort Bed with plush mattresses, good quality duvets, linens and pillows. Standard cabins are a good size. Most with twin beds can be converted to a king-size bed. Good design and soft lighting add to a feeling of spaciousness in interior staterooms.

Food and Dining

There are two principal dining rooms – Scarlet and Crimson – with a choice of fixed-time dining at two seatings, or flexible “Your Time Dining”. Dining assignments can be booked before the cruise. Menus change daily and service is excellent. Breakfast and lunch are open seating. Late morning Brunch is served along with a comedy presentation. Kids have their own menu. Lido Marketplace is the expansive two-level poolside eatery, offering casual alternatives for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also on the pool deck are snacks all day, including a pizza station, deli, and fast food. Come evening, there are five dining options (some pay extra).

Entertainment

There is something for everyone. Main Show Lounge, spanning three decks, presents large production shows and cabaret acts backed by a live show band. It has a revolving stage, hydraulic orchestra pit, and excellent sound. The second stage entertainment is at Burgundy Lounge. Ocean Plaza also has a stage, dance floor, large bar and features cabaret entertainers. Seaside Theatre’s giant screen over the main pool shows sports events, music videos and films. Night is the time for late buffet snacks, R-rated comedy and Caliente Dance Club. There’s Sam’s Piano Bar, and the nearby Ocean Plaza offers food, interactive games, and a dance floor. These are just a few of the two dozen bars and lounges splashed with kaleidoscopic colours.
