It is a platform reef, which means that it has grown to its full height of 20 – 30 metres, and is now expanding outward with large shallow areas ideal for diving and snorkelling. On display amongst the beautiful corals are turtles and amazing, brilliantly coloured giant clams, some of which even glow in the sunlight. There are several platforms from which to explore the reef, including 'Reef World' that is permanently located in a deep channel traversing the reef. learn more

The centre of the island is dominated by a massive 1900 year old 12 km diameter desert-like caldera that hosts multiple craters.
