Curieuse Island is a small granitic island in the Seychelles off the north coast of Praslin, the second largest island in the Seychelles. Aride is the northernmost granitic island in the Seychelles archipelago of 115 islands. (There are two coral sand cays north of Aride: Denis and Bird.) The archipelago is set on a raised plateau in the Indian Ocean, with an average waster depth of just 60 m. Praslin is the second largest island of the Seychelles, lying 44 km NE of Mahe. Once used as a hideaway by pirates and Arab merchants, it is now known as a tourist destination as it is home to beautiful turquoise water and white sand beaches such as Anse Lazio and Anse Georgette. There are also several very rare birds such as the endemic Seychelles Bulbub and the Seychelles Black Parrot, as well as being the only place on earth that is home to the unique Coco de Mer, a fruit from an extraordinary palm tree. The Poivre (Pepper) Islands are a group of islands lying 270 km SW of the capital Victoria on Mahé, the Seychelles’ main island. They are located in the Amirante group of coral islands and atolls that belong to the Outer Islands of the Seychelles. Assumption Island is a small island in the Indian Ocean north of Madagascar and is part of the country of the Seychelles. It is located about 30km southeast of the Aldabra Atoll and is part of the Aldabra Group.
