Sognefjord is the longest and largest fjord in Norway and one of the longest in the world. It stretches from the North Sea 205 km inland to the small village of Skjolden, which provides access to Jotunheimen National Park that is notable for its high mountains, glaciers and deep lakes. Eidfjord offers visitors two options, either the opportunity to take in the beautiful scenery - the fjord landscapes are luxuriant with green mountain sides and white mountain tops - or to actively explore the hiking trails that surround Eidfjord. Kinsarvik is a village that lies at the confluence of Sørfjorden and the Eid Fjord, two fjords that flow into the Hardangerfjorden, which in turn flows into the Atlantic Ocean. (Hardangerfjorden is the second largest fjord in Norway.) The village has a population of around 500. It has been an important location since the Viking age, alongside three fjords.
