Monarch of the Seas
Monarch of the Seas cruises year-round out of Port Canaveral, to Royal Caribbean Cruise Line’s resort at Cococay in the Bahamas, and the Capital Nassau. Cruises are of 3- and 4-nights. Updated accommodations total 471 inside and 733 outside cabins. There are four wheelchair accessible cabins and 299 staterooms with a third or fourth berth. Staterooms are small, but suited to the short cruises when there is so much outside activity available. All cabins have flatscreen TV, most with twins to queen-size beds, and the bedding is excellent. Only 62 cabins have verandahs, but suites are comfortable and quite posh. At the top of the price range are superior ocean view staterooms and suites with large balconies, floor to ceiling windows, and sitting areas. Room service is available 24 hours a day, offering a limited menu and Continental breakfast.

Entering service in 1991, Monarch was refurbished in 2003, and at 73,941 GT carries 2384 passengers. The refurbishment added a rock-climbing wall, Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream and Seattle's Best Coffee, a Latin Bar, disco, Asian-fusion restaurant and conference center. The fitness center, spa and children's area were also enlarged. Monarch can best be described as a floating Las Vegas, with shows, gambling, drinking and fun. However there are tamer activities for the more sedate. Vincent's and Claude's (after artists Van Gogh and Monet) are the new main dining rooms. A poolside barbecue is scheduled one night on each cruise and a barbecue on the beach in Cococay. Other dining options include the Windjammer Café (buffet), a pizza station, hot dogs at Sorrento's, and terrific wraps and sandwiches at the Deli. In addition there are sundry lounges and bars, filled with music and dance. The Sound of Music Theater presents the company’s production shows. Other on-board distractions are Casino Royale, the spa and beauty salon, and the ShipShape fitness area. Monarch of the Seas has two pools and two Jacuzzis. Children and teens have ample dedicated facilities and activities. These cruises attract the younger set, first-timers, those on a budget, and others just wanting a short break.
