Until May 2010 MS Statendam cruises the East and South Caribbean, and runs 14- to 21-night cruises between Fort Lauderdale and San Diego. From mid-May 2010 MS Statendam offers 7-night cruises each way between Seward (Alaska) and Vancouver (Canada) through the fjords of the Alaskan coast. Then in September she returns to the Panama Canal and Caribbean circuits. Cabins are roomy with two twins or one queen bed, sofa convertible to third bed, flat screen TV, and bathrooms with tubs and showers (no tubs with inside cabins). Upgrade to Ocean-view, Verandah or Suite. Room service is excellent, including dine-in service. Six staterooms accommodate passengers with disabilities. For meals, select set-seating dinner in the main dining room, or walk-in at any time. The Lido, the ship's buffet area, is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. For an additional charge choose the outstanding alternative restaurant The Pinnacle Grill.

Holland America Line’s Signature of Excellence initiative for this ship focuses on five areas: space and elegance; sophisticated dining; gracious, unobtrusive service; extensive enrichment programs and activities; and interesting destinations. It has plenty of places on the deck for solitude, and inside a genuinely extensive library, and art featuring a theme of Dutch exploration. A three-deck atrium showcases an elaborate 26-foot-high “Fountain of the Sirens.” Enrichment and entertainment by day include its demo kitchen and wine tasting, and a favourite focal point is the Explorations Café. Not to be missed are the Microsoft Digital workshops that will teach you to make a DVD of your trip or create your own web page or blog. Evening entertainment includes eight bars, a disco, and shows in the Van Gogh Theater featuring talented vocalists, dancers, illusionists, comedians and variety acts. A wide variety of shore excursions can be booked for reasonable costs (but book early). Fitness activities include two pools, two hot tubs, courts, jogging course, and of course Spa and Salon treatments. Club HAL caters for 3 to 12 year olds, and The Loft and The Oasis for teens. Expect a mix of seniors, older couples and multi-generational families, and come dress-prepared for formal nights' dining and dancing.
