Where she sails
Carnival Legend is based in Sydney from October through to April each year, and most of her cruises visit Pacific islands over 7 to 12 nights (including 4 to 6 sea days). Island groups visited are New Caledonia, Vanuatu and Fiji. In April and September each year take a trans-Pacific cruise bridging Sydney and Hawaii via French Polynesia. Other possibilities are to sail from Sydney to the Queensland coast or to New Zealand’s north island around the Christmas/New Year period. From time to time there are short ‘taster’ cruises, or 5 nights to Tasmania. In 2018 Carnival Legend will homeport in Melbourne. Carnival Legend is prepared for the Australian market – power points, menus, entertainment, and facilities, informed by what works for Carnival Spirit. There’s the entertainment show Hasbro. Other popular new features include the Red Frog Pub, Bonsai Sushi, candy store Cherry On Top and the Dr Seuss at Sea kids program. Because of her higher speed, Legend can spend more time visiting ports during her cruises.

Life aboard Carnival Legend
Carnival Legend is based in Sydney from October through to April each year, and most of her cruises visit Pacific islands over 7 to 12 nights (including 4 to 6 sea days). Island groups visited are New Caledonia, Vanuatu and Fiji. In April and September each year take a trans-Pacific cruise bridging Sydney and Hawaii via French Polynesia.

Carnival Legend began service in 2001, and was most recently refitted in 2011. At 85,920 GT she carries 2,124 passengers, yet gives the feel of not being particularly crowded. The ship was modified for the Australian market, and provides local cuisine, beers and wines, newly-trained baristas for better coffee, Australian comedians, Australian currency and power, and no tipping. The ship features alternative restaurants, onboard wedding chapel, an 80 percent ratio of outside cabins, and creative touches such as museum-quality artwork and “designer” martinis. Carnival Legend has a children’s pool area with a “giant soaking water bucket.” This “Fun Ship” has a nine-deck-high atrium, onboard golf program, duty-free shopping mall, video arcade, a great alternative restaurant, and creative touches such as museum-quality artwork and “designer” martinis. Carnival Legend has received top marks from past guests for the quality of its entertainment and facilities for families and children. The Night Owls program also offers nightly babysitting between 10 pm and 3am, which is designed as a “fun filled slumber party at sea” (extra charge).

Accommodation
The 20 cabin categories include interior staterooms, ocean view rooms, ocean rooms with French doors (but no balcony), ocean rooms with private balcony, and four grades of suites. Eighty percent of the cabins are outside; 80 percent of those staterooms have private balconies. Each cabin has a gift amenity basket in its bathroom. All staterooms include flat-screen TVs, safe, AC, mini-bar fridge, beach towels, hair dryer, bathrobes to wear during your cruise, and Carnival Comfort Bed with plush mattresses, good quality duvets, linens and pillows. Standard cabins are a good size. Most with twin beds can be converted to king-size bed. Good design and soft lighting add to a feeling of spaciousness in interior staterooms.

All five Suite categories have a large lounge and sleeping area, large bathroom with twin wash basins, and whirlpool bathtub. The best suites and cabins are those on the aft-facing decks. The 6 Grand Suites mid-ships are largest in area. Suites qualify for priority check-in at port. Some cabins can accommodate a third and fourth person, and most cabin categories are fitted with inter-connecting doors to suit families. There are no single cabins, and 16 wheelchair-accessible cabins. A room service menu is available 24-hours, for a small charge.

Food and Dining
The ship has a single two-deck Truffles Restaurant with a choice of fixed-time dining at two seatings, or flexible “Your Time Dining”. Dining assignments can be booked before the cruise. Allow for one or two nights “Dress Elegant”. Menus change daily and service is excellent. Breakfast and lunch are open seating. The International Food Plaza on the lido deck is an extensive casual eatery, with sections that include small buffet counters, salad counters, a dessert counter, a 24-hour pizzeria, ice cream/frozen yoghurt station, and deli.

The Nouveau Restaurant (dress up, reservations only, cover charge), for steak and seafood with your selected wine, is a superb fine-dining experience not to be missed. There is a poolside grill Fat Jimmy’s C-side BBQ that offers burgers, hot dogs and the like. Hot coffee is available at drinks stations throughout at no cost, but the offerings at the specialty coffee and patisserie European-Style Café are tempting. The Chef’s Table (for 12, reserved, pay) takes you on a galley tour, then fine cuisine. Drinks are available at 16 bars. The ship offers 24-hour room service, ranging from basic continental-style breakfast fare to a variety of sandwiches and desserts.

Entertainment
There is something for everyone. New to the Australian market will be Playlist Productions, with special effects in theatres and bars ship-wide. Follies is the main show lounge spanning three decks presents large production shows and cabaret acts backed by a live show band. There’s an alternative show lounge, Firebird Lounge, on the lowest deck. Night is the time for late buffet snacks, R-rated comedy, and Medusa’s Lair for dancing. Billie’s Piano Bar and Medusa’s Lair Dance Club with bar have live music in the evening.

Daytime activities include the customary art auctions, karaoke, "game show mania," ballroom dancing, comedians, bingo, library and Internet café. Adults have the large action-packed Club Merlin Casino. For adults, an open-air deck called Serenity will have a child-free pool, spas, sun lounges and a bar. Take an aerobics class, work out in the revamped gym, refresh with a beauty treatment and massage. There’s a mini-golf course, jogging track, and deck games. Teens enjoy their own parties and movies at Club O2, junior teens at Circle “C”, and pre-teens at Camp Carnival. Entertainment extends to the humungous Green Thunder waterslide and pools. Late-night child care is available for a charge.
