Life aboard Carnival Imagination
Carnival Imagination entered service in 1995. At 70,367 GT she carries 2,052 passengers. Renovations in 2007 have given her an ‘as-new’ look, sporting mini golf course on the sports deck, refurbished staterooms, new children’s facilities, remodelled restaurants, water parks with whirlpools and three pools, and an adults-only deck. Other features include internet access, library, and spa and fitness facilities. Carnival Imagination offers excellent Las Vegas-style entertainment, a selection of theme bars and lounges, and some of the largest standard cabins in the cruise industry. Past guests give top marks for the ship’s entertainment and its value-for-money. Despite the large number of passengers, there is no sense of being crowded onboard. This well-maintained vessel is ideal for families, veteran travellers, multigenerational groups, honeymooners and singles.
Accommodation
With the latest refurbishment staterooms are like those of a four-star hotel - an elegant retreat from the day's activities. Choose from 13 grades of accommodation. Interior cabins are spacious, with twin bed or queen, and some with an upper bunk. Oceanview staterooms come with either two portholes or large windows. Outside balcony suites and penthouse suites are more spacious and decorated, with whirlpool tubs, and decked out with marble and wood. Suite guests have priority check-in at US homeland ports.
All staterooms include flat-screen TVs, personal safe, and Carnival Comfort Bed with plush mattresses, good quality duvets, linens and pillows, swanky bathrooms; and sample sizes of personal items in a bowl or basket. Outside cabin guests have white fluffy towels and bathrobe. TV channels include CNN, CNN International, in-house channels, Cartoon Network, ESPN, two movie channels (and a separate one that is geared to children), ABC, CBS, and NBC. Room service is available 24-hours, with a greater range of menu for suite guests. There are no single cabins, and 22 cabins that are wheelchair-accessible.
Food and Dining
The ship's two dining rooms are Pride and Spirit, both attractive and bright, with a choice of fixed-time dining at two seatings, or flexible "Your Time Dining". Dining assignments can be booked before the cruise. Menus change daily and service is excellent. Breakfast and lunch are open seating. Windows on the Sea Bar and Grill is a lido self-serve buffet that provides hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza, salads, ice cream, cookies and so on. At night it morphs into the casual Seaview Bistro serving steaks, salads and deserts. A patisserie offers specialty coffees and sweets (extra charge), and there's also a sushi bar open prior to dinner. There is no "alternative" restaurant.
The quality of food is good and the ingredients are fresh. The menu is varied, not just in the main dining room, but throughout the ship. Many guests breakfast on the lido deck, and at lunch choose the international dish of the day. A continental breakfast in one's stateroom comes with streamlined service. Other meals, available 24-hours, include a variety of sandwiches and desserts. Dining is an elegant experience at an affordable price.
Entertainment
Carnival ships provide carnival entertainment. The Dynasty Showlounge presents large-scale productions shows and major cabaret acts. There are many participatory activities - colourful, fun, and with much family revelry. Also follow the art auctions, bingo and trivia challenges. Read quietly in the library by day, contact the world in the Internet cafe, and quicken the pace in the casino by night. There are numerous bars and lounges, with live music, playing your song requests, and sing along.
Relax top deck around the resort-style pool, under the trademark Carnival swept-back wing-tipped funnel. Take an aerobics class, work out in the gym, or refresh with a beauty treatment and massage. There's a mini-golf course, jogging track, and deck games. Adults have exclusive use of the top deck Serenity Retreat. Teens enjoy their own parties and movies at Club O2, junior teens at Circle "C", pre-teens at Camp Carnival and Children's World play area. WaterWorks includes the Twister Waterslide and Splash Park, fun for all ages.
