The Mexican Riviera (a term coined by Princess Cruise Line), extends from Ensenada (California) south through Cabo San Lucas, La Paz and Loreto on the Baja Peninsula, and six ports on the coast of the Gulf of California including Mazatlan and Acapulco (with its famous cliff divers). Tourists enjoy resort life, sports fishing, water sports, dining and night-partying, shopping and sight-seeing, amidst cultural remnants of the old Mexico.

Five large cruise vessels depart regularly from San Francisco, San Diego and Los Angeles, offering 4 to 14-night cruises to Mexico. Select the ports you wish to visit – Ensenada in the north, ports on the Baja Peninsula, or travel further south to Puerto Vallarta, Zihuatanejo (where Andy Dufresne of The Shawshank Redeption settled), and Acapulco. The Mexican Riviera is also included in trans-Panama sailings between the US west coast and the Caribbean.

Check out the itineraries of Princess, Carnival, Holland America, Norwegian Cruise Line and Celebrity, ex Los Angeles, offering 3 to 10-night cruises to Mexican Riviera. Holland America has five ships that visit these ports in regular Panama crossings. Many other cruise lines call at Mexican Riviera ports as they make the Panama Canal crossing. Luxury ships include Oceania’s Regatta, and ships of Silversea, Azamara and Regent Seven Seas.
