Carriacou Island is the largest island in the archipelago of St Vincent and the Grenadines. These islands form part of the Lesser Antilles, a crescent of volcanic islands separating the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean. It lies 12° north of the equator and outside of the hurricane belt. Two hundred kilometres to the south of Carriacou is the coast of Venezuela. This low-set and hilly island covers only 34 sq.km.
