Cruises visiting Norfolk & all Norfolk cruises for 2016-2017

View Norfolk 2016-2017 cruises for 4 ships listing 4 cruises from Norfolk with today's best deals!

Norfolk is located in the metro area called Hampton Roads, in the state of Virginia. It is a port city with the world's largest Naval base and a large shipping presence. The city has a long history as a strategic military and transportation point. The Norfolk Naval Base is world renowned and is home to the Battleship Wisconsin, which was in service from World War II through to the Persian Gulf War. Not surprisingly, the world's largest military alliance, the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) has its defense headquarters here. Tourists are also attracted by its exciting restaurants, and unique shops. Indeed, a couple of blocks from the waterfront, the MacArthur Centre Mall offers upscale shopping at 140 stores, and has many delightful places to eat.

As Norfolk is a waterfront city, possibly the best way to see it is on one of the Norfolk harbor cruises. Choose from, sailboats, a 19th-century Mississippi riverboat, or take the Elizabeth River Ferry to visit Olde Towne Portsmouth that is fast, cheap and offers a panoramic harbor view. Don’t miss the bus tours conducted by Navy personnel. The Nauticus is a science centre that not only explores the power of the sea, but also includes the Hampton Roads Naval Museum. The historic and trendy neighbourhood of Ghent that has many interesting boutiques, cafes, theatres and galleries, is a very popular attraction as is the Virginia Zoo that displays 400 animals, ranging from African elephants to Siberian tigers.

Norfolk Botanical Gardens has large stretches of colourful landscapes, unusual flowers, mature forests and seasonal plantings that include large collections of azaleas, camellias, roses and rhododendrons, while the new Kaplan Orchid Conservatory greenhouse at Old Dominion University also offers delightful floral displays. Then there’s the Waterford Festival Marketplace, the centre-piece of the waterfront that offers food, fun and entertainment, and simply can’t be missed.
