Antalya is the 'capital' of the Turkish Mediterranean Coast. It is a sprawling modern city, but Old Antalya which surrounds the Roman harbour, with its historic museum, and the many buildings - now restored as homes, boutique hotels, inns and restaurants - that date back to Ottoman and even Roman times, give it its own distinctive atmosphere. There are numerous fascinating archaeological sites to visit, or take a day excursion to one of the wonderful National Parks, and even experience some white water rafting, or you can simply enjoy the dramatic sea and mountain views.
Take in the magnificent waterfalls, and even walk behind a cascade at the Upper Duden Waterfalls, truly a thrilling experience. Undoubtedly the area is best known for its beaches and the associated activities such as in the morning just 50 km away, have lunch, and return for an enjoyable swim, scuba diving, wind surfing and paragliding. But remember that in the months of March and April, one can snow and ski. Antalya is a Turkish resort city with a yacht-filled Old Harbor and beaches flanked by large hotels.
Antalya is the fastest-growing city in Turkey, and tourists from around the world are discovering its fabulous mix of great beaches and traditional Turkish culture. It's a gateway to Turkey's southern Mediterranean region, known as the Turquoise Coast for its blue waters. Remnants remain from Antalya's time as a major Roman port. These include Hadrian’s Gate, built to honour the Roman emperor’s visit in 130 AD, and 2nd-century Hidirlik Tower with its harbour views. Kids will love the Beach Park, which features Aqua Land (a waterslide-fanatic's dream) and Dolphin Land (home to dolphins, sea lions and white whales).
