Cruises from Rennel Island
In 1998, UNESCO inscribed the eastern part of the island (East Rennell) on the World Heritage List. East Rennell is the largest raised coral atoll in the world, measuring 86 kilometres long by 15 kilometres wide, and covering approximately 37,000 hectares. One of the main features of the island is Lake Tegano, the former lagoon of the atoll and the largest island lake in the Pacific. With a climate marked by frequent cyclones, the site is a natural laboratory for scientific study.
