Cruises from Henderson

Henderson Island is an uninhabited island, part of the Pitcian Islands colony and now a South Pacific Overseas Territory. Pitcairn Island lies 193 km to the WSW of Henderson. Henderson was designated a World Heritage Site by the UN in 1988. Settled for a time by Polynesians around the 12th to 15th C., the island was discovered by Fernandes de Querios in 1606, and again by Captain Henderson of the British East India Company in 1819. A sperm whale sank the whaleship Essex in 1820 (the inspiration for Moby-Dick) and the crew landed on Henderson. Today, Pitcairners visit the island and collect miro and tau trees from which they turn make curios for their income.
