Wuvulu Island - aka Matty Island - is the westernmost island of the Bismarck Archipelago in the western Pacific Ocean, part of Manus Province, in one of the remotest parts of Papua New Guinea. It is a small island of volcanic origin encircled by a coral reef with a maximum height of three meters above sea level. The islanders (about 5OO), of Micronesian origin and culture, are distributed in two villages, Auna (sunrise) and Onne (sunset), settled on the west coast where they are 3 kms apart.
