The commune of Maupiti is made up of the island of Maupiti proper, with its surrounding islets, as well as three distant atolls. This commune of French Polynesia is in the administrative subdivision of the Leeward Islands. Vaiea is the main village of the island where the town hall, schools, post office, church and a few small stores and snack shops are located.
