San Juan de Marcona is the capital of the Marcona District of Nazca Province, Ica Region, Peru. The port lies on a very dry, desert plain region on the Pacific Coast of Peru. It is principally a mining town, exporting iron ore from an open-cut pit that is adjacent to the port. Plans for expansion by a number of Chinese and other national companies ensure employment for the local population.
