Porto Ercole is a Mediterranean village on the south-east of Monte Argentario, a peninsula in the Tuscany region of Italy. It lies just 55 km to the NW of Civitavecdchia, the busy cruise port for Rome. Once an island, Monte Argentario is now joined to the mainland by three narrow spits of land that form two lagoons. The other main village on the ‘island’ is Porto Santo Stefano on the northern coast.

This pretty seaside resort is one of the most famous in Tuscany, associated with pleasure, good food, boats and relaxation. The fortresses of La Rocca, Filippo, Santa Carolina and Stella dominate the hillside above the perfect little natural harbour.
