Kastellorizo (officially Megisti) is a Greek island in the East Mediterranean, lying just two kilometres south of the Turkish mainland. It lies halfway between the large islands of Rhodes and Cyprus. Kastellorizo is roughly 6 km by 2.5 km. It is one of the Dodecanese (“12 islands”), a group of 15 larger and 150 smaller Greek islands in the SE Aegean Sea. The island featured in the Italian film Mediterraneo that won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1992.
