Aswan is a city in the south of Egypt, on the east bank of the Nile at the first cataract. It is a busy market and tourist centre - and also one fo the driest places on earth. This is an archaeological site comprising two massive rock temples in southern Egypt on the western bank of Lake Nasser about 230 km SW of Aswan. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the "Nubian Monuments", which runs from Abu Simbel downriver to Philae (near Aswan).
