Isla Espanola, named in honour of Spain, is the most southerly as well as the oldest island in the Galapagos Archipelago, Ecuador. Its remote location and seclusion from other islands has resulted in Isla Espanola having a large number of endemic fauna. For example the marine iguanas here are the only ones that change colour during the breeding season. Other popular fauna include albatrosses and the mating dances of the blue-footed boobies. Even the Waved Albatross is also found on the island.
The island's steep cliffs serve as perfect runways for these large birds, which take off for their ocean feeding grounds near the mainland of Ecuador and Peru. You are sure to appreciate your visit to this part of the Galapagos National Park.
