Cruises from Malz

Malz , a centre of a fruit-growing region, is a village in the city of Oranienburg in Brandenburg, Germany. It is located on the western bank of the Havel river, 35 km north of Berlin. One of the first Nazi concentration camps, it was built 1933 and continued to exist until the end of the Nazi regime. Read more

A bookstore inside the gates offers a variety of Holocaust and concentration camp literature, and free English language pamphlets. Admission is free and tours in English are available. Sombre as they may be as tourist destinations, the concentration camp memorials vividly commemorate the country's recent past and help explain much about its present. Interestingly, these days the government brings budding police and army officers to Sachsenhausen, where they learn to understand the meaning of unbridled state tyranny.
