Bacharach is a town on the west bank of the Rhine Gorge, 48 km south of Koblenz. The town is built along a crescent-shaped curve of the Rhine, 1400 m long and at the most 200 m wide. Its population is less than 2000. In the early 20th C the Rhenish Association for Monument Care and Landscape Preservation began re-building its decayed walls and structures, and memorials to past political wrongs of its history.
