Tierra del Fuego (“Land of Fire”) is an archipelago off the southern tip of the South American mainland, south of the Strait of Magellan. Isla Grande is the main island, along with a group of many islands including Cape Horn and Diego Ramírez Islands. Half of Isla Grande and the islands west and south are part of the Magallanes Antarctica Chilean Region. The eastern part is controlled by Argentina. In an area where snow falls even in the summer, thirty percent of the archipelago has forests.
