Amalia Glacier, situated in the central section of the Southern Patagonia Ice Fields, enters into Amalia Bay in southern Chile. It is the largest of several glaciers entering the fjord. This enormous glacier, one kilometre wide and forty metres high, sits towering above the sea and is continually calving. Subsequently, cruise ships only approach to within 1.5 km, which appears deceptively closer. To see it is an awesome spectacle, as its ice towers and, colours, contrasting with the surroundings, create emotions in all spectators.

The waters are dazzling blue and this spectacular glacier is considered a regional highlight and a favourite destination for visitors. Because of the glacier's immense weight, the oxygen has been pressed out of the ice, giving it an amazingly beautiful crystalline appearance. This mammoth blue mountain of ice is ever changing, and indeed slowly shrinking. Also of great importance is the spectacular fauna and flora. On the cliffs and the surrounding trees one sees a variety of bird life, while off shore dolphins are regularly seen swimming alongside their ship.

Amalia Glacier, also known as Skua Glacier, is a tidewater glacier located in Bernardo O'Higgins National Park on the edge of the Sarmiento Channel. The glacier originates in the Southern Patagonian Ice Field. From 1945 to 1986, its terminus retreated 7 km, along with the recession of the O'Higgins Glacier, the most dramatic retreat of the glaciers of the icefield during that period. The glacier partially surrounds Reclus volcano and erodes the northern flank of it. The glacier is accessed by boat or, for the more adventurous explorers, by kayak.
