Cruises from Hobart

Hobart is the capital of Australia’s island state of Tasmania. Tasmania is located at the southernmost part of Australia. Hobart was founded in 1803, making it the 2nd oldest city in the country, after Sydney, New South Wales and was first established as a penal colony for British convicts. Today, Hobart is the financial and administration hub of Tasmania. Nestled between the entrance of River Derwent and Mount Wellington, Hobart is known for its beautiful waterfront harbour, heritage sandstone architecture, award-winning restaurants and wineries along with historic museums, galleries and the oldest continually operating brewery in Australia, Cascades Brewery!

Take a stroll along the waterfront and enjoy the view of the river lined with sailing boats, whilst admiring the sandstone architecture warehouses throughout the city centre. Make your way through the iconic and most visited Salamanca market which operates every Saturday showcasing Tasmania’s local artisans, designers and producers. Heading west of the city centre, Mount Wellington is a spectacular site to visit and one not to be missed! Take a tour or a scenic drive up to the summit and stroll along historic walking trails. Travel east of the city, you will reach historical Port Arthur. This 19th century penal settlement, now an open-air World Heritage-listed Historic Site, has a choice of guided walks, optional tours and activities for you to experience. Hobart has a mild cool climate all year round. In the summer months of December to February, expect cool temperatures with rain. In the winter months June and August, expect very mild temperatures, with snow on the mountains, with rain. The best time to visit would be Autumn and Spring, March-April and October-November as these will offer more comfortable temperatures. All cruise ships dock at the newly renovated Macquarie Wharf No. 2 Cruise Terminal located opposite the University School of Arts building on Hunter Street. The cruise terminal has great facilities and is only a 10 minute walk to the city centre.
