18 May 2007 - Wall Street Journal, "A New View of the Planet"

Seasoned technology writer, Jeremy Wagstaff discusses the popularity of Google Earth and the variety of ways it's being used. In addition to the crisis in Darfur and some powerful environmental applications, he references two tourism sites including Clean Cruising. The other was New Zealand's tourism authority which had a layer added to the default travel category within Google Earth, letting people explore featured attractions and places of interest. Jeremy added, "...geobrowsing is going to play a big part in the way we find our way around the future -- whether it's making sense of the world or planning our next cruise."

Read all about how we've used Google Earth to let you take virtual cruises from the comfort of your desktop.

15 May 2007 - US Newsweek - Arthur Frommer's Budget Travel Online, "Cruisegoers learn to love the Web"

This popular US travel guide says "Clean Cruising has come up with an innovation sure to sweep the U.S. cruise industry soon: virtual cruise itineraries." The article also predicts that other cruise websites and cruiselines will add similar rich online services aimed to help cruise passengers select the right cruise. We were a bit embarassed to be labelled "an environmental champion", but we believe everyone in the travel industry needs to be pro-active when it comes to climate change.

14 May 2007 - Google Maps Mania, "CleanCruising using Google Maps to plot cruise routes"

This premier Google Map Blog includes a great review by Mike Pegg, discussing how we showcase cruises within Google Maps. "...The infowindows have a link to zoom right into the port, and feature great photos and other details of that route. Once you're done viewing the Google Map of the cruise, try out some of the other goodies - cruise the route in a movie clip or right on Google Earth, or view the ship's webcam! Nice site, nice use of Google Maps and lots of web innovation to make this a unique travel site!"

6 May 2007 - Google Earth Blog - article

Frank from Google Earth Blog talks about our Google Earth implementation, saying Clean Cruising "...makes good use of Google Maps and Google Earth to help travelers learn more about destinations... more travel agencies should be doing this!" Frank, we agree and if it were easy, we're sure more cruise websites would.

27 March 2007 - ninemsn Travel, "Australians Lead the Way with "Clean Cruising"

Did you know that a typical 10 night South Pacific cruise generates almost 2 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions per person? That's quite a cost to the environment! New website CleanCruising.com.au has confronted this problem by offering cruise passengers a clean choice for the first time.

"More Australians are looking for sustainable travel solutions," says Clean Cruising's General Manager Dan Russell, "but until now there's been no way to carbon offset a cruise holiday."

Clean Cruising, a new division of innovative agency GlobeNet Travel, has partnered with the not-for-profit organisation Carbon Neutral to plant Australian native trees to combat the carbon emissions generated by cruise vessels. In what is believed to be a world first, Clean Cruising absorbs the cost and sponsors the tree planting themselves, unlike other carbon offset programs which charge customers an additional levy.

For passengers who book with their agency, Clean Cruising calculates the environmental impact of their cruise by combining Google Earth cruise route mapping with data from both industry and independent researchers. They then plant the required number of trees to offset these emissions and customers receive a certificate verifying how many trees were planted on their behalf.

"Clean Cruising has taken the initiative and made it easy for people to be responsible about their travel choices," praises Angela Tillier, Marketing Manager of Carbon Neutral. "It's a great service to their clients and to the environment."

Mr Russell added, "Many of our clients cruise to some of the world's most pristine destinations and we're excited to play a small part in helping to preserve these environments for future generations of cruise lovers."
