2 Sun 19 Aug 2012 Cheju, South Korea 1.00pm 9.00pm
Pearls of the Orient Cruise Cheju, a city on an island of the same name, is a beautiful destination, located off the SW coast of South Korea. A volcanic island, with good rainfall and mild climate, results in its being known as Koreas Hawaii. A good road system and rental cars allow for ease in visiting the entire island.

There is a wide range of activities for visitors such as hiking in Hallasan National Park – with South Koreas highest peak, Mt.Halla-san (1,950 m.), and other well-known trails, viewing majestic waterfalls, riding horses, or simply relaxing on the sandy beaches. Ancient relics, some deemed to be from the stone age, and others through time, make visits to numerous sites such as the Ville pond of Ouum-ri, Gosan-ri, and Sangmo-ri, simply fascinating to many, who are impressed by the mystery of the island.

Other places of interest include the Sangumburi Crater 350 m across and 100 m deep with its unique grave sites, Manjanggul, one of the longest lava tubes in the world, and Manjang Cave with its rare species, and investigate the fascinating use of Jeju Olle hiking trail system. Enjoy the duty free shopping, fascinating souvenirs, and you won't be surprised that the locals call their home the Island of the Gods.

4 Tue 21 Aug 2012 Kobe, Japan 7.00pm overnight
Pearls of the Orient Cruise Kobe is the capital of the Hyogo Prefecture and lies on the southern side of the main island of Honshu, Japan. A cosmopolitan port city with an international flavour, hemmed in by Mt. Rokko, it constantly comes up number one in expatriate rankings of the best place to live in Japan.

The Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art, with its collection comprising sculptures, prints and paintings, built following an horrific earthquake in 1995, is a tribute to the spirit of mankind, and well worth visiting. Visit Chinatown west of Sannomiya, then visit Kitano, where westerners built their homes and take a stroll in the area with its many trendy cafes and boutiques. You may even enjoy a ride on the Shin-Kobe Ropeway cable car. Get excellent views of the city from both Kobe City Hall and Port Tower, and visit the Kobe Maritime Museum in Meriken Park, to name but a few of great opportunities.

Kobe's cosmopolitan nature gives rise to some fascinating insights of this city. For example, its fashion is much sought after, and indeed it has given rise to the Japanese phrase, “If you can't go to Paris, go to Kobe.” The Kobe fashion Museum on Rokko Island is an interesting interlude. Additionally, Kobe is the site of both the first golf course and the first mosque ever built in Japan, being the Kobe Golf Club, in1903, and the Kobe Mosque in 1935. It truly is a fascinating place.

Pearls of the Orient Cruise Beppu is a city that overlooks Beppu Bay and is backed by mountains, located in Oita Prefecture on the island of Kyushu in Japan. It is considered to be Japan’s hot springs capital as it has the second largest volume of hot water in the world, after Yellowstone in the United States, and the largest number of hot spring sources in Japan.

This tourist town has nine major geothermal hot spots, which are referred to as the ‘nine hells of Beppu’, that are a major attraction to visitors.
